Chesterfield DJ presenting local and national radio shows – from under his stairs

Sean Goldsmith spent 12 years on the Peak FM breakfast show with Becky Measures before leaving in 2014.

Since then he has been DJing on a number of different stations including Viking FM and Greatest Hits Radio before returning to Chesterfield and working with Virgin Radio – alongside Chris Evans and Graham Norton – all from his home studio under stairs.

Sean said: “When I left Greatest Hits Radio in December I was asked to join the Virgin Radio family, but I had to work from home and the only free room in the house was under the stairs.

“With the help of my friend David he built some woodwork and managed to set up a very small radio studio where we kept the coats and shoes. I use the World Studio loosely because it it’s basically a standard PC and a microphone!

“It’s not easy to work under the stairs because you can hear everyone coming down the stairs, the washing machine, knocking on the door, the children called for tea, but this is the modern world we are in. let’s live. Everything is completely normal in 2021.

“I have been called Harry Potter several times! “

A sign Sean’s wife made to fit the studio under the stairs

“It’s a sign of the times moving from working in a multi-million pound studio complex in Manchester to working under the stairs in Bolsover. Some people don’t believe me when I tell them where I work from, and my wife Lian isn’t always happy when I ask her to turn down the TV while I’m on the air.

“If someone had said around this time next year that I would be working from home under the stairs at the same station as Chris Evans and Graham Norton, I would have laughed out loud!”

Sean has also featured for many other home stations this year including Chesterfield Radio, Care Radio and Charitable Radio.

You can hear his local broadcasts on North Derbyshire Radio – a new online station for the area – from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.

While you can watch its national broadcasts on Virgin Radio Chilled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Virgin Radio Anthems from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays.
